An Elantra or Similar is not a fucking mid-size, even the manufacturer doesn’t call it one.
With that being said... I need to figure out their “mid-size” Rogue or similar will fit 5 people’s worth of international flight luggage...

Class size creep has been a thing for ages.
I almost always rent premium or higher now, safer bet.

Well the other rental site lists the same class as RAV4 as similar for the mid-size SUV, so I might be able to get away with it. My friend has one and told me it should fit.
And it’s like half the price of the premium for the code I have.

Counterpoint: The Elantra is a subcompact midsize sedan that performs like a conservative sports sedan and has the price tag of a compact car, unless it is fully optioned — then it offers the luxury of a premium subcompact midsize sports sedan.

And now I will never believe anything carfax ever says.

It’s been driving me crazy lately and seems especially rampant with GM products. Every time I go to Hertz, they always issue me a car that is 1-2 class sizes down from what I reserved. The last time they gave me a Spark when I reserved a Compact and claimed that “the trim package bumps it up to Compact”, then argued with me that it was a subcompact (which it isn’t). If it’s a subcompact, my personal car is a midsize luxury sport wagon.
The creep has been getting a lot worse lately. The only time I seem to get what I’m expecting anymore is outside the US.

Last time I rented a car we got Hyundai Accent or similar, ended up on a Loaded Chevy Cruze. Could have gone with Elantra or Dart too. But I’d never drive a Cruze so I thought I’d give it a shot.

Whatever company you use sign up for their customer rewards program, whatever they call it, all the rental companies have one. It’ll get you a free upgrade and sometimes a faster (or no) wait in line.

I’m using my corporate rates, so not sure if it’ll stack.

Good luck rolling the dice :)

I suspect a Cruze is fullsize now.
Renting in Europe is a revelation, the fleets are so much better, and not really more expensive than popular airports in Canadamerica.
